Day 1: Lima
Arriving in Lima, you'll be met by your private guide and assisted to your hotel for the evening.
Day 2: Hacienda Concepcion
Return to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado. From Puerto Maldonado you will board a motorized canoe and head into the Amazon to your lodge to begin your jungle adventure. In the evening you will enjoy your first excursion into the Amazon.
Day 3: Hacienda Concepcion
Today you might wake up early for a canoe ride to the largest claylick on the river, to admire the flocks of brightly feathered macaws that gather there. In the evening, you can climb the canopy walkway and use binoculars to watch the monkeys, birds and bats that flit through the leafy canopy. A night walk will give you a chance to see the frogs, snakes, tarantulas and other creatures that fill the dark with noises. Each day at Hacienda Concepcion includes two activities of your choosing.
Day 4: Cuzco
This morning you will return to Puerto Maldonado by boat for your flight to Cuzco. Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport by your driver and taken to your hotel via private transfer. After getting settled into your hotel we recommend spending the afternoon and evening relaxing and acclimatizing.
Day 5: Cuzco
Enjoy a private guided tour of the highlights of Cuzco today for a good introduction to the one-time capital of the Inca Empire. The city’s history is literally written in its stones; massive Inca-carved stone foundations are overlaid with colonial architecture. A highlight is Koricancha, the Inca’s sumptuous Temple of the Sun, which the Spanish invaders converted to Santo Domingo church. In the evening, you can explore the city’s vibrant culinary scene by joining a cooking class in making some of the country’s signature dishes, including different types of ceviche or perhaps tamales with quinoa.
Day 6: Sacred Valley
Make your way through the Sacred Valley with visits to Pisac, one of the most vibrant markets in Peru, the agricultural terraces of Moray, and the salt pans at Maras, where you’ll learn about local life in the Andes.
Day 7: Machu Picchu
This morning you will board the train for Machu Picchu. The journey traces the edge of the white-water Urubamba River as it twists through the increasingly steep-sided jungle valley. From your seat, you’ll spot a series of Incan sites before arriving at Aguas Calientes. After disembarking from the train you will take a short bus journey up to Machu Picchu for your privately guided tour of the Inca ruins. Your guide can help unravel some of the mysteries that still linger around the city that was built, inhabited and abandoned all in just 100 years.
Day 8: Cuzco
