Day 2: Albuquerque • Balloon Fiesta
Albuquerque is world-famous for its International Balloon Fiesta, when each October the skies above the Duke City fill with the dazzling colors and hundreds of hot air balloons. This morning, we depart for Balloon Fiesta Park. Few spectacles rival the Mass Ascension and Special Shape Rodeo™ as upwards of 500 balloons lift off in a breathtaking display. Ballooning enthusiasts from around the globe converge to marvel at the incredible range of balloons in every color, size and shape imaginable. Browse vendor booths for unique souvenirs and enjoy the festive atmosphere. You’ll have access to the Chasers’ Club, located next to the balloon field, where a hot buffet breakfast awaits. Note: The Balloon Fiesta is weather-dependent. While early October weather is generally ideal, strong winds or storms may delay or cancel events. Dress in layers for warmth and bring sunscreen for later in the day.
Next, visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Explore the museum, gallery and gift shop, and enjoy traditional dances held throughout the day. Our journey continues to Acoma Pueblo, perched 350 feet above an expansive valley atop a sandstone mesa. This is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the United States. Highlights include San Estevan del Rey Mission, built in 1629, and the largest and most remarkable Spanish Colonial mission church in New Mexico. A Pueblo member will guide you on a leisurely tour, sharing insights into the tribe’s culture and history. Please note: Video cameras and binoculars are strictly prohibited. No photography is allowed inside the church or cemetery courtyard. Return to your hotel in the evening and enjoy dinner on your own from a selection of Albuquerque’s fabulous local restaurants. Meals included: B, L
Day 3: Sandia Peak Tramway • Old Town Albuquerque • Glowdeo™
Start the day with a ride on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway. Ascend from the bustle of Albuquerque to the crest of the Sandia Mountains at 10,378 feet, where an 11,000-square-mile panoramic view awaits. Afterward, enjoy a driving tour en route to Sawmill Market, a vibrant community space featuring local food vendors, artisans and artists. Lunch is on your own here — discover exciting culinary experiences in this dynamic setting. Next, visit historic Old Town, the original heart of Albuquerque, founded in the early 18th century. Explore San Felipe de Neri Church and other historic buildings that showcase the city’s unique past. Your guide will share stories of Albuquerque’s founding during the ride. Upon arrival, enjoy entertainment at the Gazebo in the Plaza and browse 150 shops and galleries.
This evening, return to Balloon Fiesta Park for the spectacular Special Shape Glowdeo™. At dusk, balloons inflate and remain tethered, lighting their burners in a synchronized display that creates a magical glow. Guests enjoy exclusive access to the Anderson Abruzzo Balloon Museum Observation Deck, featuring reserved indoor seating and a buffet-style dinner. After the glow, the AfterGlow Fireworks Show will dazzle and delight! Note: The Glowdeo™ is weather-dependent. Late afternoon winds or rain can prevent balloons from inflating. Meals included: B, D
Day 4: Albuquerque • Sante Fe • Albuquerque
After breakfast, depart for Santa Fe via the scenic Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway. Named for the turquoise deposits found throughout the area, this route winds through rugged rock formations and quirky towns. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walking tour of Santa Fe’s historic Plaza, St. Francis Cathedral, the Loretto Chapel with its “miraculous” staircase and San Miguel Chapel. Founded in 1610, Santa Fe was the last stop on the Camino Real, the legendary Royal Road stretching from Mexico City to the northern reaches of the Spanish Empire. Lunch is on your own at one of the many Plaza-area restaurants. Return to Albuquerque for a farewell dinner to share memories of this unforgettable journey. Meals included: B, D
